There ought to be a human rights cry coming from every corner of the world on this crime against women. But we only read about it. A society is judged by how it treats it's weaker members. It is not looking good for the countries who have such distorted views of the value of human life.

This article has a karmic and yet a scary prophecy when it says,
'Statistics from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences - published by The Economist - estimate that by 2020, China will have 30million-40million more men aged 19 and below than women in the same age group. This will result in one in five young men in the country being unable to find a bride, according to CASS. According to The Economist, the crime rate has almost doubled in China during the past 20 years of rising sex ratios, including bride abduction, the trafficking of women rape and prostitution.'

We must challenge the status quo in these countries and protect women and infant girls. If we do not speak out, who will?

What a find. Imagine something has historic as this being found after all these years. The artwork itself while a little worn has lost nothing of its drama. The characters emotions leap out to us from the canvas to the photo to our screens.

Hopefully so, Christine. This painting was sent to me the other day by a woman who, like me, is the 10th great-granddaughter of Mary Bradbury, who was convicted in Salem on September 9th, 1692. She was sentenced to hang, but escaped from prison before the sentence was carried out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Bradbury

I am related by marriage to three other women who were convicted and hanged. I descend from two sisters of one of the judges, Samuel Sewall. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samuel_Sewall

My 9th great-grandfather was the first cousin of Reverend John Hale, "the witch hunter," and is often confused in some historical texts for his cousin, as they were both named John Hale, lived almost the exact same years, and were both married to women named Sarah. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Hale_(Beverly_minister)

The Chinese government has recently been building a great number of damns. This article had no explanation behind why this resevior has dried up. Man made or not, it is a hardship to the people who depend on the waters which once flowed here.

I like the concept behind these flowers. I support the initive of what they were doing, but please could they have made them at least attractive? They have their own strange beauty, please don't get me wrong. I agree with Allison. We never really got to see them because they looked like a bunch of green being held. They did not show well to a t.v. audience. Hopefully, they did mean the most to the women who made them, and the people who received them. To us...they were an eye sore.

Congress can approve money for Wall Street, but cannot take care of our most vulnerable in society. This brings anger to a full boil. Go after CEO's who take millions in bonuses! Failure to help the most non-recession proof segment of people is unexcusable. In fact, it is the greater crime. These people are going without medicine and food!

Such a very dark time for women in particular, but for society. Posing for this portrait probably had some redeeming value for the woman whose descendant fell victim to such horror.

I comment at risk of sounding like a nudge, "From an evolutionary perspective, it's not always a bad thing for life on Earth to face severe stress." Then came an era of global warming.
I make this statment using a quote from this article because it was my Geology Professor in College who was very critical of the subject of global warming.
Yes, I can see it taking place today. I believe unlike him that some of it is caused by man. But what part do we attribute to the planet. For example the recent earthquake in Chile was so very powerful, scientist say it shorten an earth day, it moved the earth 6 degrees off it's axis. How much will this effect our global climate? I know we need to cut down on emmisions, but I think the earth and it's history play a very important part too.
