Carolina Herrera's Gemstones and Shine
Carolina Herrera's Gemstones and Shine Simone Goller
New York – Carolina Herrera has perfected the technique of elegantly brightening up the dark and wintry months for a woman's wardrobe, where grays and blacks can seemingly overtake the whole of it, which she proved at her fall 2011 show in New York on Monday, Feb. 14.
Amethyst, garnet and an exceptional turquoise, all gemstones of the cold weather months, appropriately worked their way into the core of the line in belts, accents, and even alongside each other in full looks.
Herrera's trained eye for detail did not allow the colors to outdo each other but rather compliment and further extract the depth of each pigment. Her color fusions made even the dullest of shades look as rich as the natural rainbow-colored rocks.
Notable looks included an amethyst liquid stripe woven bustier dress which gave the illusion of being pinned to the body with onyx stone staples. A turquoise and dark gray jacquard gown with a velvet belt will no doubt be a jewel on Mad Men's redheaded actress Christina Hendricks, who anxiously congratulated Herrera backstage after the show.
