Happy anniversary S.A. Griffin and Lorraine Perrotta! Poem by Scott Wannberg, "s.a./lorraine 10 years later"
s.a./lorraine 10 years later
when the all night day shift reports in for duty
the castanets chuckle...
in the everlasting sky
a giant martini(gin-never vodka)
glows,
with lorraine's resume flying high from its
apex...
time for you all
to turn your pajamas into sheet music,
time for the men to turn into babbling boys of becoming,
and the ladies to glide with purpose
across the heavens,
on their way to
the oak tree of hello,
next to the merry-go-round
which is always making its rounds to see
if you're being merry,
oh mary mary never too contrary,
she left us in kingman and s.a. and lorraine
taught me that dancing
in public
is not only necessary
but the only way
of life.
raise your burdens,
toss them to the side,
for the moment,
indulge with me,
for i bring you all my indulgent indulgences,
to this ever expanding table,
upon which the books boogie to the bongo's barometer
of baby
its bop
and all the cities of your soul
in between...
s.a. and lorraine
they waltz through all those mediocre mine fields
that really don't know the
lay
of our
land.
they waltz well,
and if you ever pull a leg muscle,
tune in to their wavelength
and all your
muscles will
laugh.
