New poem from Luciole Press friend and contributor Scott Wannberg: "almost recess time"

almost recess time

the 4 foot 3 inch author with the 2,000 page bestseller
fell through this morning.
he meant well,
but the carpet refused to enjoy his feet.
you need a carpet that's willing to play ball.

a Great Dane ate my phone book.
he truly understood the power of numbers.
your mood ring looks eerie,
could you leave it at home
the next time you drop in on me?

they claim this winter you'll be able to tell the men from the boys.
what do you think you'll tell the men?
stories in which you continue to prevail,
hopefully. even men enjoy success stories,
every now and then.

i hear you once struck lucidity.
you didn't set out to do it intentionally.
it just found its way to you,
in the thin air,
at the end of the so called access road.
you let the blood rush to your head,
and sometimes it gets very crowded there.

don't worry if the moon disappears
before you can light your way home in it.
it will come your way again,
just as stubborn dreams find a way to
cling to your skin.

everyone wants to be able to name the next tune.
everyone can't be right when they do so.
all the tiny cafes
promise wholesome giant specials.
our collective stomachs
could use a break.

the world is indeed hapless,
when it comes stumbling,
ask it how strong it wants its coffee.
the unspoken oral history
of our bones
keeps humming in the back row
of the class
that never
reaches
recess.
