Asking for good thoughts for my mother
In her ongoing battle with lung cancer, she is now down to 68 pounds. Her doctors have given her from 1-6 months, depending on continuing rate of weight loss. She was a little over 86 pounds in March. Very tiny; her knees are now wider than her thighs and her elbows are wider than her upper arms.
April 2009 she was told she had lung cancer, and then after further testing another doctor determined it was not cancer but an infection. She has been under treatment for that, and seemed to be doing better, only to slip backwards. I remember how kind so many of you were as we were going through the process of trying to see if she had cancer, and we were very thankful for that.
Sadly, a CAT scan in April and further testing showed she indeed did have lung cancer all along (in addition to the infection). It had spread and was causing mayhem. She is not able to undergo any further treatment; it is now time for hospice care to come into our home. They will take out her regular bed and install a hospital bed; place a bench in her shower for resting while showering. More changes will be made as we turn her room into a makeshift hospital setting. She has taken to sleeping a lot, experiencing more pain and difficulties… while also arguing with me in hopes of the scale being wrong. It’s not.
Though I placed a hold on unsolicited submissions, I still continue to receive them in addition to other requests. Please understand there is no way I can use my energy and attention on that right now. For those who have sent kind messages, please know how much I, from the depths of my heart, appreciate that… and how much my mother appreciates everything as well. I ask for good thoughts for her, in hopes that she receives good comfort care, in fervent hopes that she can stabilize somewhat, and most of all in hopes that she will have peace and less pain. I believe in the power of good wishes, and hope you can spare a few for us.
