As publisher, editor, and webmaster of LP, I do all of the work on the publication. Now I have to take a break to deal with some urgent health issues. I was tested for leukemia back in January, and received a mixed result – not all clear, as some of my lymphocytes show morphological changes, but thankfully somewhat under the level at which I would need to start chemotherapy. I have a chance to really affect this condition by my actions and efforts right now, but I need to take an actual break to do that.
I have attempted it, then get sucked back in and do some work either via email or post something on Facebook or LP Blog, and it confuses people. So I will say this – occasionally I will sign in to FB and answer a few messages, clear the wall, or post something. I will update the blog. Take it as touching bases, not hypocrisy. I now have just under 7,500 messages in my email inbox, and it will take time to get through that to everyone.
Manners are important everywhere, even the internet. I occasionally receive some snippy notes from people who have sent in submissions; remember to treat editors and publishers as you wish to be treated. Call it the Golden Rule of Art and Words if you like.
The contributors and I have a great issue coming up, to be published on May 1st. I will continue to be in touch with contributors, and will endeavor to answer emails and submissions when I can. If I can manage to do that occasionally the next few months, that is great. If I cannot get to you for awhile, please bear in mind that publishers have real lives they must attend to.
Good thoughts and wishes are welcome and appreciated. I am sending them out to all of you. I hope you are enjoying the Winter Issue of LP, and will look forward to the Spring/Summer Issue on May 1st. It’s shaping up to be really lovely.
All my best,
Karen Bowles
