Alida Ivanov Gallery is proud to present "A Better Life", an exhibition by John Rydberg.

Linear time has ceased to exist in Rydberg's world. The characters and the depicted settings exist on their own terms. On the canvas the characters manifest themselves in a posed and deformed reality. Rydberg's motifs are fetched both from personal memories, occurrences, fantasies, chimeras as well as art historical references. Popular culture and network society are filtered through the characters' naïve attitude towards their environment. He mixes day-to-day existentialism with pseudo-religiousness. The paintings are woven together by their substance and together form a narrative without logic. They are usually both humorous and introvert at the same time. The pictures are sometimes painted over several times, but details or parts of the previous motifs are saved and then put in liaison with the new.

John Rydberg is born in 1975 in Gothenburg. He received BA in Fine Arts from Central St Martins College of Art and Design, London, in 2000 and since then has had exhibitions both in Sweden and abroad.
