Greece opens its long-anticipated new Acropolis Museum Saturday, boosting its decades-old campaign for the return of 2,500-year-old sculptures removed from the ancient citadel by a 19th century British diplomat. After years of delays and legal wrangling, the museum opens its doors to the public on Sunday at a nominal 1 Euro ($1.40) charge the price of a public bus ticket.

Greece's Orthodox Church on Wednesday formally blessed the new museum, which is scheduled to open this weekend. Greek officials hope one day to display the British Museum's Elgin Marbles from the Acropolis in the glass and concrete museum despite repeated refusals from London.

My invite must be in the mail. Actually, I am delighted to see aggressive preservation taking place. The last century has been hard on antiquities. I find the remark from Hannah Boulton from the British Museum spokewoman to be a bit over reaching, when she said. "I think they belong to all of us. We are all global citizens these days." They, being of course antiquites from Greece. I wonder if she would feel the same way if the crown jewels were parked in a museum in France?
