Welcome to the Spring/Summer Issue of Luciole Press, 2009.
At 77 pages overall, this is easily the largest issue I have ever made, by far. I do not mind saying it has been quite an undertaking, and I have worked relentlessly on it. I am happy that so many wonderful poets and artists have sent in work to Luciole to be considered; please know that I am still moving through emails and will try to respond to everyone as quickly as I can. The volume of emails alone is something I am simulataneously pleased about and slightly overwhelmed with. Know that I honestly try to get through it all as best as I can. The work of an Editor is not really ever done!
I hope that readers and contributors alike enjoy this issue. It is wide in its scope, literally and figuratively… each reader can, from the comfort of their home, engage with artists on a global scale in an intimate fashion. Let recurring contributor Dena Rash Guzman share the second part of her photo-essay series about her trip to T

New contributors also show us Los Caballos (the horses) in Chile (Barbara Esthefania Navarro Duran); incredible botanical diversity at Groendal Dam in South Africa (Sabine Hoppe-Speer); and ancient art forms that have made their way from Kuzhebar, Siberia to a studio in Berlin in the form of a special artist, Julia Surba….

On a personal note, I am excited to introduce contributor Mark Lineberger. He and I attended middle school together in North Carolina, and in this issue he has allowed me to publish many of his photos of the coastal area we called home. I have experienced many twinges of heartfelt recognition of childhood haunts with these photos… I moved around so often that I cannot easily answer the question, “Where are you from?” Seeing these pictures, I am reminded that I can definitely say a big part of me is from the coastal area of NC…
I love seagulls all over the place, but NC seagulls have a special brand of gull-ness. I just don’t know any other way of putting it. They always crack me up, and I could watch them for hours.

Recurring contributor Jeaneth P. Skauvgold indulges us once again with her beautiful photos of Norway. Martyn Clayton gifts us with a short story, “The Shining Place,” along with photography from the area the story is set in, Wester Ross, Scotland.

I am proud to congratulate longtime contributor Shelley Bluejay Pierce, who has been appointed the White House correspondent for Native American Times. Way to go Shelley! We are all proud of you! Check her page out for many links.

Check out my article about the thriving new store, The Vintage Vulture, opened not so long ago by talented stylist Andrea Folmer. Her work has graced many interesting people, and the public at large continues to benefit from her boundless love of all things vintage and beautifying...

Astronomer and author Seth Shostak takes readers on an interglacatic journey with his new book, Confessions of an Alien Hunter. Check out his page for more info!

In fact, there are truly so many wonderful components in this issue that I would need to write for hours more to direct dear readers to all of the different aspects. There are many wonderful poets featured; please make sure to drink all of their good words in and savor them. Poet Scott Wannberg wrote a piece that included both Luciole Press and myself, which simultaneously delights me and has me in fits of laughter...
